What does the day look like?
Only 40 percent to 50 percent of a qualified teacher's working day is spent directly teaching in the classroom, which amounts to 18 to 22 contact hours in a 36 to 40 hour contracted week. The remaining 50 percent to 60 percent goes into lesson planning, grading tests, safeguarding tracking, and administrative compliance.
Your daily routine involves managing portals such as e-Maktab, SIMS, Arbor, Canvas, or ManageBac, evaluating exams, and mentoring junior colleagues. The core workday runs from 07:45 to 16:30, but evenings and weekends regularly require 8 to 15 uncontracted hours for marking, parent conferences, and club supervision. There are no night shifts, though boarding school roles require weekend residential duties.
