What does the day look like?
Your day means setting room rates and budgets, coordinating front office, housekeeping, food and beverage, and security, hiring and training staff, inspecting the property, handling guest complaints and VIP relations, enforcing brand standards, reporting to owners or asset managers, and controlling revenue and costs. You work in property management systems such as Opera, Cloudbeds, and Fidelio, plus Microsoft Office and CRM tools. Most managers use email and phone every day, and weeks often run past 40 hours. The visible “guest luxury” part is a minority of the shift — most hours go to staffing, budgets, owner calls, audits, and crises. You still cover evenings and weekends and stay on call for incidents. Pre-opening GMs typically run a 12–18-month mobilisation before the hotel opens.
