What does the day look like?
You cannot plan a typical day in advance: during peaks, openings, or understaffing, nights, weekends, and holidays are normal. A Marriott Hotel Manager runs Front Office, Housekeeping, Security, Engineering, F&B, Events, and Retail at once — P&L, brand standards, the executive committee, wage control, occupancy and rate coaching, guest satisfaction, hiring and appraisals, and property walk-throughs. Daily tools include a PMS, Microsoft Office, Outlook, Excel, Oracle JD Edwards, HotSOS, Enablez ResortSuite CRM, POS systems, and payroll software.
Roughly 10–20% of the week is guest-facing “glamour” — walk-throughs, VIP complaints, occasional check-ins. The rest is financial reviews, labour and wage reports, brand audits, staffing, meetings, email, capital plans, and compliance on liquor, fire, and health rules. You are not on a fixed front-desk rota, but you stay on call for escalations.
