What does the day look like?
Most of your day is not spent at a fixed front desk. At Hilton, Marriott and Accor properties you run front-office operations: check-in and check-out, room inventory, reservations, switchboard and concierge where the property has them. You supervise 3–7 team members per shift, run shift briefings and monthly meetings, build schedules, and coach and discipline staff.
Roughly 75–85% of the time goes to team leadership, reports in systems like Oracle Hospitality OPERA or Hilton OnQ, resolving overbookings and escalated complaints, and coordinating with housekeeping and other departments. Direct guest contact — greeting VIPs, handling serious complaints — is only about 15–25% of the shift. A Hilton Orlando posting lists core availability as 14:00–00:00 including weekends and holidays, with some overnight shifts and 24-hour on-call duty at some properties.
