What does the day look like?
A standard work week runs 45 to 55 hours. Shift work and night shifts do not occur; emergency on-call duties are rare, happening mainly during catastrophic market volatility or liquidity events. Workloads peak sharply during annual ORSA submission cycles and quarterly board audit cycles.
Only 25% of the working day covers technical actuarial modeling: reviewing capital models, running stress tests in FIS Prophet, Moody's AXIS, or WTW RiskAgility / MoSes, conducting scenario analysis using Python, R, SAS, MATLAB, and SQL, and checking solvency against Solvency II SCR/MCR, SST, or RBC benchmarks. The remaining 75% is consumed by committee governance, cross-functional risk presentations, regulatory correspondence, drafting risk policies, tracking risk appetite breaches in Archer GRC, SAP GRC, Microsoft Excel / VBA, and Power BI, and negotiating across departments.
