What does the day look like?
Between 45 and 75 minutes prior to departure, you review the Operational Flight Plan (OFP), weather charts, NOTAMs, and SIGMETs, and complete a physical walk-around exterior inspection of the airframe, engines, and landing gear. Inside the cockpit, you program the Flight Management System (FMS / FMGC), compute takeoff performance numbers (V1, Vr, V2) and center of gravity on an Electronic Flight Bag (EFB) running Jeppesen FliteDeck Pro or Lido/eRouteManual, and brief the crew.
During flight, you alternate legs with the Captain as Pilot Flying (PF) or Pilot Monitoring (PM). Hands-on manual flying represents only 5% to 10% of block time (takeoff and landing below 1,000 feet); the remaining 90% to 95% is dedicated to system management, autopilot monitoring, ATC radio coordination, and checklists. Work is governed by strict Flight Time Limitations (FTL) limiting flying to 100 hours per 28 days and 900 hours per calendar year, involving 04:30 report times, night sectors, and standby duties.
