What does the day look like?
Roughly 35–45% of your day goes to the visual identity work people picture — logos, colour palettes, brand guidelines and template kits. Another 25–35% is client and stakeholder communication: briefs, presentations and feedback rounds. Production prep — CMYK/RGB exports, print specs, file handoff — takes 15–25%. Admin like versioning, archiving and scheduling fills 10–15%.
You'll work in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign, Figma for libraries and review, and increasingly After Effects for motion-brand assets. O*NET data show 79% of graphic designers sit continually, 90% use email daily, and 70% face time pressure daily. Standard employed roles have no shift work, on-call duty or night shifts, though deadline crunches are common. Freelancing adds proposal-writing and invoicing.
