What does the day look like?
Your day is usually in an office or studio — no shift work or on-call duty, though pitches can push you into evenings or weekends. You read client briefs, develop concepts, and build layouts in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign, often Figma too; you prepare print-ready files with CMYK, bleeds, and die-lines. You present work, revise from feedback, and coordinate with copywriters, photographers, and developers.
In a typical agency after five-plus years, roughly 50–65% of the day is hands-on design and production, 20–30% is meetings, briefs, email/Slack, and revisions, and 10–20% is admin — file prep, asset management, and similar tasks. The glamorous part — concepts and presentations — is a small share; most of the day is screen work.
