What does the day look like?
About 15% of the working time covers the visible tasks people imagine: testing liquid formulations, pipetting solutions, or handling active molecules. The remaining 85% is strict compliance and industrial control: reviewing and signing Batch Manufacturing Records (BMR) and Batch Packaging Records (BPR), investigating deviations, performing root cause analyses (RCA), managing Out of Specification (OOS) results, and running Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA).
Daily tools include High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC), tablet presses (such as Fette or Korsch), fluid bed dryers, lyophilizers, alongside software like SAP S/4HANA, TrackWise, Veeva Vault, and Empower 3. Standard quality assurance roles operate on a 40-hour week (08:00–17:00). Production floor and validation roles work 8-hour or 12-hour rotating shifts across day, evening, and night to maintain 24/7 manufacturing batches, with on-call duties during validation runs.
