What does the day look like?
You work inside the company: you build the greenhouse gas inventory under the GHG Protocol Corporate Standard across Scope 1, Scope 2 and Scope 3, prepare the Science Based Targets initiative near-term and net-zero target, complete the yearly cycle on the CDP disclosure platform and ESRS reporting templates where they apply, collect Scope 3 data from suppliers, and track internal carbon budgets and marginal abatement cost curves.
About 10% to 20% of time is site visits, supplier visits or audits and the rest is desk work: data cleaning, evidence packs, finance and procurement meetings, and disclosure drafting. Tools are SimaPro and GaBi, Persefoni, Watershed, Sweep and Normative, EcoVadis and CDP Supply Chain, SAP, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint, Tableau and Microsoft Project. For O*NET 11-1011.03, 100% use e-mail every day, 85% work indoors in controlled settings every day, and 78% work more than 40 hours in a typical week. There is no shift or night work; peaks run around inventory close, Science Based Targets initiative validation, audit and annual report deadlines.
