What does the day look like?
Your clinical schedule is 37.5 hours per week, running Monday to Friday from 08:30 to 16:30 or 09:00 to 17:00. Overnight shifts do not exist, though working in acute stroke units or major trauma centres involves weekend on-call rotas (such as 1 weekend in 6) to assess acute swallowing problems.
Direct patient clinical interaction takes up 45% of your day, where you conduct VFSS and FEES endoscopic swallowing evaluations and deliver complex rehabilitation for conditions like stroke, Parkinson's, and traumatic brain injury. The rest of the day is split between administrative documentation (25%) using Epic Systems, Cerner Millennium, or SystmOne alongside configuring AAC devices like Tobii Dynavox and Grid 3, clinical supervision and multidisciplinary meetings (20%) with doctors and junior Band 5 therapists, and service development projects (10%).
