What does the day look like?
You spend most of the day on production paperwork. 15% to 20% of time goes to creative work: moodboards, draping, initial sketches. 80% to 85% goes to production administration: tech packs with BOM, stitch specifications, tolerance measurements, label placements and construction diagrams, 2 to 3 hour fit sessions on fit models with pattern makers and garment technologists, pinning alterations and signing off samples. You track lead times, MOQs, shrinkage and colorfastness with fabric mills and trim suppliers across Europe and Asia, and align SKU counts, margin structures, target retail prices and fabric yields with merchandising and buying teams.
Tools are Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, CLO 3D or Browzwear V-Stitcher, Centric Software PLM or Infor PLM. The standard week is 40 hours, Monday to Friday, 09:00 to 18:00. No shift work or overnight shifts. For 4 to 6 weeks before Paris/Milan Fashion Week and showroom dates the week rises to 60 to 75 hours, with late-night fittings and weekend revisions.
