What does the day look like?
You take the brand planogram: shelf heights, product adjacencies, mannequin outfits. You dress and pin mannequins, build, paint, hang and light the seasonal window, compare best-sellers against slow-movers in the weekly sales report to move stock into cold zones, audit visual compliance, train sales associates on daily maintenance. Tools: steamer, staple gun, cable tie, cordless drill, safety ladder, craft knife, measuring tape, spotlight pole, vinyl plotter. Software: Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, SketchUp, AutoCAD, Visual Retailing, Blue Yonder, Microsoft Excel.
Only 25% to 30% of paid hours is creative styling. 70% to 75% is physical work and admin: carrying heavy mannequins, lifting boxes, climbing a 3-meter ladder, focusing hot spot lamps, printing tags, filing compliance photos in a mobile app. 40% of major floor flips run out of hours, between 21:00 to 06:00 or from 06:00 before 10:00 opening.
