What does the day look like?
Your day has 5 parts. Pre-production logistics is 30%: you build call sheets, secure location permits, scout studios, book photographers, videographers, hair and makeup artists, models and digital techs, and negotiate rates. Sample and lookbook tracking is 25%: you move garments between ateliers, press offices and sets, and control tagging, steaming, inventory and undamaged returns. Project management and asset delivery is 25%: you update boards in Asana, Monday.com, Trello, Notion and Airtable, chase retouching notes, track crop sizes for e-commerce, social and print, and archive raw files in Bynder, Brandfolder, Dropbox Business and Google Workspace. Budget and admin is 15%: invoices, POs, catering and travel costs in Microsoft Excel, Google Sheets, QuickBooks and SAP / Oracle NetSuite, plus model releases and copyright contracts. Creative input is 5%: tear sheets, reference images and brainstorming decks in Adobe Creative Cloud, Capture One and Figma.
The glamorous part is 5% to 10% of the hours. The other 90% to 95% is spreadsheets, late invoices, packing trunks, emails, couriers and schedule crises. Office days are 40 to 45 hours per week, 09:00 to 18:00. Shoot days are 12-to-16-hour days, starting at 05:00 for sunrise locations and running past 23:00. During Fashion Week and campaign launches there is night work, weekend standby and heavy physical work.
