What does the day look like?
An internal auditor evaluates whether an organization's internal controls, governance, and risk management processes function effectively. About 35% of the day goes to control testing, transactional sampling, and data analytics using Microsoft Excel, SQL, Python, IDEA, or Alteryx. Another 25% is spent drafting formal audit reports and committee packs, while 20% involves interviews and process walkthroughs with department heads and operational staff. The remaining time is split between audit planning and risk mapping (15%) and remediation follow-up (5%). Core tools include ERP systems like SAP S/4HANA, Oracle ERP Cloud, and 1C:Enterprise, alongside audit management software such as TeamMate+, Diligent HighBond, and AuditBoard.
Working hours are a standard corporate 40 to 45 hours per week, with no night shifts or on-call duties. The role includes domestic or international travel for 10% to 30% of the year to inspect regional branches, manufacturing plants, or overseas subsidiaries.
