What does the day look like?
Your workday starts at 08:30 with cash liquidity checks, reviewing treasury positions across bank accounts, and monitoring credit facilities. The core of the day involves executive committee meetings, evaluating capital expenditure, tracking unit economics, and reviewing 3-year rolling financial models. You negotiate loan covenants with banks, answer equity investor inquiries, meet Big Four statutory auditors, and sign off on commercial contracts and tax structures. The work relies heavily on enterprise software including SAP S/4HANA, Oracle NetSuite, Anaplan, Kyriba, Bloomberg Terminal, and advanced Microsoft Excel modeling.
The glamorous side of high-stakes boardroom deals and closing massive acquisitions takes up roughly 10 percent of the year. The remaining 90 percent is operational reality: variance analysis, internal audit compliance, ERP data cleanup, tax optimization, and formatting board slide decks. Expect 50 to 65 hours per week. While there is no shift work, fiscal quarter-ends, annual audit seasons, and debt refinancing require 12-hour days and weekend commitments.
