What does the day look like?
Standard hours run 37.5 to 40 hours per week (Monday to Friday, 08:30–17:00 or 09:00–17:30), with on-call emergency rotas in acute psychiatric units or crisis teams. Direct psychotherapy (CBT, ACT, DBT, EMDR) takes up only 30–35% of the week. The remaining 65–70% of the job consists of psychometric scoring, documentation, and multidisciplinary reviews.
About 20–25% of the time involves diagnostic interviews and standardized testing using tools like WAIS-IV, WAIS-V, WISC-V, MMPI-3, PAI, and SCID-5. Another 25–30% goes to drafting 10–18 page evaluation reports and managing electronic records in Q-interactive, Pearson Q-global, PARiConnect, Epic EHR, Cerner Millennium, or NHS Rio. The remaining 10–15% is spent in team consultations with psychiatrists and supervising assistant psychologists.
