What does the day look like?
Only 10 to 15 percent of your working hours involve conceptual sketching and creative design. The rest of the day is divided between client management and design presentations (25%), technical reviews and zoning compliance sign-offs (25%), leading teams and redlining junior staff drawings (20%), contract administration and budget negotiations (15%), and on-site contractor dispute resolution (5%).
Typical office hours run 45 to 55 hours per week, surging past 60 hours during major competition deadlines and planning appeals. Work is studio-based with regular travel to construction sites and municipal zoning hearings. There is no shift work, but night and weekend work happens near major tender deadlines. Daily work relies on Autodesk Revit, Graphisoft Archicad, McNeel Rhino with Grasshopper, Bluebeam Revu, and Procore.
