What does the day look like?
Only 5% of your day matches the romantic image of standing over a canyon or high-rise reviewing paper blueprints in a hard hat. The remaining 95% is rigorous operational site management: QA/QC documentation, subcontractor coordination, Requests for Information (RFIs), Method Statements, Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) briefings, Toolbox Talks, Variation Orders (VOs), Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs), concrete pour sign-offs, and daily site logs.
You will work with digital platforms and modeling tools like Autodesk Construction Cloud (BIM 360), Procore, PlanGrid, Oracle Primavera P6, AutoCAD, Revit, and Tekla Structures, alongside Leica Geosystems or Trimble total stations, GNSS rovers, and Schmidt hammers. The standard international work week spans 50 to 60 hours over 5.5 to 6 days. Remote projects run on Fly-In Fly-Out (FIFO) rosters (such as 4 or 6 weeks on site followed by 2 weeks off living in worker camps), while urban projects require night shifts for critical concrete pours and heavy lifts.
