What does the day look like?
Your workday typically starts early, running from 06:30 or 07:00 to 17:00 across a 50 to 60-hour work week. Around 35 percent of your day is spent coordinating trade crews and running morning toolbox talks. Quality control and checking structural tolerances against drawings take 25 percent, while health and safety enforcement takes 20 percent. Compiling shift logs and material deliveries takes 15 percent, and resolving crane or logistics bottlenecks takes 5 percent.
Standing with a clean hard hat looking at blueprints represents less than 10 percent of reality. Most of your shift is spent on wet concrete or steel decking, using optical levels from Leica or Bosch, Schmidt rebound hammers, and moisture meters. You will log daily progress in Procore, PlanGrid, Fieldwire, and Autodesk Construction Cloud. Continuous foundation concrete pours also require mandatory 12 to 14-hour overnight shifts.
