What does the day look like?
You start from the brief, budget and timescale agreed with the club or client: researching venues and suppliers, negotiating prices, booking venue space, equipment, catering and security, hiring and supervising caterers, stewards and security contractors, delivering publicity material and sponsorship, selling hospitality space. In match week you coordinate the fixture calendar, ticketing and access control, accreditation for teams, media and VIP guests, protocol for directors and sponsors, transport and parking plans, radio-net discipline, incident and crowd-density logs, liaison with police and local safety officers, derig and lost-property reconciliation after full time.
The part near the pitch during play is a small share of matchday, mostly monitoring, radio response and guest handling. Most hours go to pre-event planning, supplier chasing, document checks, seating and signage checks, briefings, financial reconciliation and evaluation reports. Tools: Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft Project, Microsoft Word, Google Docs, Google Drive, Adobe InDesign, Adobe Photoshop, Microsoft Dynamics, Microsoft Access and MeetingMatrix, plus ticketing platforms, accreditation databases, 2-way radio procedure, CCTV and control-room protocol, PA and big-screen run sheets. Typical hours are 37 to 39 a week outside peak, with evenings, weekends and bank holidays, travel, nights away from home, long shifts from gate opening through crowd dispersal, plus on-call replanning for weather, transport failure or security alerts.
