What does the day look like?
You manage the club, you do not coach the team. You build the multi-season squad plan, agree the playing identity with the board and the head coach, propose hiring and dismissal of the head coach, own the transfer and loan plan, approve contracts and renewals with legal and finance, direct the scouting and data departments, decide academy promotion and loan pathways, track UEFA squad-cost and licensing rules, and deal with agents, media and owners. The tools are Wyscout and Hudl for video scouting, StatsBomb for event data, Scout7 and TransferRoom for recruitment administration, plus the club CRM and contract systems.
Watching players and picking signings, the part teenagers picture, is about 20 percent of the time in senior accounts of the role; negotiation, budgets, meetings, compliance, staff management and communication are about 80 percent. Matchdays mean evenings and weekends at the stadium, and transfer windows mean long hours and on-call nights because deals close late.
