What does the day look like?
Only about 10% of your day involves interviewing candidates, chatting with employees, resolving interpersonal issues, or planning team retreats. The remaining 90% is spent on financial modelling of labor budgets, legal compliance reviews, risk mitigation, designing compensation frameworks, and board-level reporting on headcount costs and attrition. You will work extensively in enterprise systems such as Workday, SAP SuccessFactors, Oracle Cloud HCM, BambooHR, and Personio, alongside talent tools like Greenhouse, Lever, Ashby, and Lattice.
Working hours are typically standard corporate office hours of 45 to 60 hours per week with zero night shifts. However, executive directors remain on call for sudden workplace crises, harassment investigations, or urgent corporate restructuring.
