What does the day look like?
The baseline work schedule is 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday. Between 90% and 95% of your day is operational reality: tracking task velocity and burndown charts in Atlassian Jira, Confluence, Monday.com, Trello, or Hansoft, balancing budgets in Microsoft Excel and Smartsheet, managing external outsourcing vendors, and running daily standups over Slack, Microsoft Teams, or Discord.
Only 5% to 10% of your time involves the game build itself, strictly limited to verifying build stability and reviewing milestone deliverables in Unreal Engine, Unity, Perforce (Helix Core), or Git rather than playing for fun. Overtime and crunch hours occur regularly before vertical slice deadlines, console certification submissions for Sony PlayStation, Microsoft Xbox, and Nintendo, or live-service hotfixes.
