What does the day look like?
Your day is not spent playing video games for fun — leisure gameplay constitutes virtually none of your working hours. The largest share of your day is dedicated to designing, refactoring, and maintaining automated test suites in C++, C#, and Python. This involves building headless game instances that run without rendering graphics, coding automated bot agents that navigate levels via NavMesh to detect collision holes, and writing unit or integration tests for game mechanics.
A substantial part of each morning is consumed by Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) analysis. When nightly automation suites fail on automated build farms, you inspect engine logs, crash dumps, and stack traces. Daily work relies on Unreal Engine (Gauntlet), Unity (Unity Test Framework), AltTester, GameDriver, Perforce Helix Core, Git LFS, Jira, TestRail, and dedicated console devkits (PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, Nintendo Switch). Standard hours are 37.5 to 40 hours per week. Night shifts are rare, but milestone crunches and on-call windows during live-service server maintenance do occur.
