What does the day look like?
You spend 10% of the day with service users and 90% on administration, budgets and compliance. You lead preparation for statutory inspections such as Ofsted and Care Quality Commission, and direct multi-agency safeguarding hubs with police, healthcare trusts and educational boards. You allocate a municipal budget from GBP 30,000,000 to over GBP 150,000,000 across child protection, adult social care, disability allowances and foster care frameworks. You manage 200 to 1,500 staff, including service managers, team leaders and frontline social workers. You report to elected municipal councils, cabinets and parliamentary committees, and brief elected lead members on serious case reviews and legal child-protection interventions. Your tools are Liquidlogic (Adults' Social Care System and Protocol Children's System), Servelec / Access Mosaic, ClientTrack, SAP S/4HANA and Oracle Cloud ERP. Contract hours are 37 to 40 hours per week, with mandatory 24/7 executive emergency escalation rotas for child safeguarding deaths, domestic homicides or major community crises.
