What does the day look like?
Your day starts with nutritional assessment: you review bloods and lab results, calculate oral, enteral and parenteral feeding plans, run MUST screening and bioimpedance, and set nasogastric and gastrostomy pumps. Then ward rounds with doctors, menu checks, discharge planning, and notes in EPIC or Cerner in hospitals and EMIS in clinics, with Nutritics or Dietplan for diet analysis.
The visible 1-to-1 counselling is the small part of the day. Most hours go to documentation, caseload triage, supervising Band 5 and Band 6 staff plus students, audit and service development. At Band 7 you own complex cases and lead the multidisciplinary team. Full-time work is 37.5 hours per week, with weekend cover, late shifts and on-call for nutrition support in acute posts, paid with unsocial-hours enhancements.
