What does the day look like?
The day begins with reviewing the night audit pack, room occupancy figures, VIP profiles, and arrivals. Throughout the shift, you coordinate Average Daily Rate (ADR) and RevPAR with revenue management, balance room inventory in Property Management Systems like Oracle Hospitality OPERA Cloud or Protel Cloud, and manage keycard encoding via Assa Abloy VingCard or Salto Systems. You also monitor guest sentiment on Medallia or TrustYou and coordinate room turnover with housekeeping and engineering.
Only 15% to 20% of the day matches the glamorous expectation of greeting VIPs in luxury lobbies. The remaining 80% to 85% is operational grind: resolving billing disputes, handling angry walk-in guests during sold-out nights, debugging PMS room statuses, and building 24/7 schedules across 3 shifts per day. Standard schedules run 40 to 50 hours per week across rotating 8-to-10-hour morning, afternoon, and night shifts, with permanent on-call duties during weekends and peak occupancy.
